Concept Plan for Community Hub Released

The next phase of community consultation is open for the brand new Community Hub in Charlemont Rise.

A draft concept plan has been developed by City of Greater Geelong based on ideas shared by the community last year and is now ready for feedback.

As the Charlemont-Marshall population jumps from 6,410 residents to nearly 18,000 residents by 2041, the growing area is in need of a functional and friendly facility for residents to access important services, socialise and participate in programs and events.

The proposed plan for the hub, to be situated on the corner of Amber Avenue and Precinct Road, features:

  • Various multipurpose community spaces, connecting to a large outdoor space for events and activities;
  • A north facing kindergarten, outdoor space and parent waiting area;
  • Consult suites for maternal and child health, allied health and supporting services;
  • A large outdoor area; and
  • Space for a future community garden.

Community members are encouraged to view the draft concept plan and give feedback online at yoursay.geelongaustralia.com.au/HorseshoeBendHub.

Mayor Trent Sullivan said it was vital to have the input of residents who will eventually use the facility.

“Charlemont is growing each year, so it’s important for the new community to have access to local early years services and multipurpose community spaces,” Mayor Sullivan said.

“By providing feedback, the Horseshoe Bend Community Hub will be built for the community and shaped by the community.”

Councillor Bruce Harwood said the draft concept plan takes into account previous feedback from residents.

“The community told us that encouraging opportunities for social interaction outdoors, spaces to support activities for youth and older adults, and retaining trees for shade were important,” Cr Harwood said.

“The plan also considers how we can celebrate the environment, make the facility warm, welcoming and safe, and easy to reach and to navigate.”

The community is invited to share its feedback before Sunday 14th April.

The City of Greater Geelong is currently anticipating construction of the Community Hub will begin in 2025.

This is great news for our wonderful community at Charlemont Rise who have also recently had the announcement of their new Primary School and new Shopping Centre commencing construction this year. The new Community Centre is located right in between them!
